Track record

Twenty-five years, and what they left me able to do.

Work I led or ran. Figures as recorded at the time. Where a programme is still sensitive, I will discuss the method, not the detail.

2022 – 2026

Sony Pictures

SVP, Regional CIO EMEA and Global Head of Content Platform Technology

Sony Pictures Entertainment · reporting to the global CIO, Los Angeles

  • Ran all SPE content technology globally (TV networks, distribution, digital media services and content technologies) alongside the EMEA CIO role.
  • Built the next-generation digital media supply chain platforms under Agile, a circa $10m investment aligned to MovieLabs 2030.
  • Team of 70+ onshore and offshore; budget of circa $20m.

2014 – 2026

Sony Pictures

VP, Regional CIO EMEA

Sony Pictures Entertainment · 2,000+ people, 50+ sites, 20+ countries

  • Cyber recovery. Led the EMEA IT recovery from the 2014 attack on Sony Pictures, restoring trading while it was still headline news.
  • Acquisition. Integrated CSC Media Group, a $100m+ acquisition, plus channel businesses in the UK and Hungary.
  • Divestiture. Three-year separation of Sony Pictures Television Networks across the UK, Central Europe, Russia and the Baltics. Transition services to buyers cut significant closure costs for SPE.
  • Realigned regional IT with Los Angeles; rolled out the global media asset management platform.

2000 – 2014

Sony Electronics

Regional CIO and senior IT leadership, Europe and North America

Sony Europe and Sony Electronics · budgets to €200m, 10,000+ users, 35+ countries

  • Cost transformation. 30% out of European IT through operating model redesign, then 30% out of North America IT.
  • Offshore and outsource.
    • Set up the Bangalore offshore centre with Satyam (now Tech Mahindra).
    • Outsourced pan-European infrastructure to a tier-one provider, with TUPE transfers.
    • Outsourced the German internet data centre, with staff transfers under section 613.
  • ERP. A €120m single-instance SAP estate across Sony Europe, and ran the internal SAP Competency Centre.

1980 – 2000

Supplier side

Building and selling what I later bought

Spherion UK · Technology Solutions Company · IBS · SAP · Dun & Bradstreet Software

  • Built SAP consulting practices and ran Spherion UK, selling services to enterprise buyers.
  • So when I later signed nine-figure outsourcing contracts as the client, I knew how the other side built the model.
  • Earlier: Sainsbury's and UDT. Forty-five years in, and still interested.

Case detail

Three stories I can talk through properly.

The lessons, not the polished version.

Recovery

The first ninety days after an attack

What stops, what you rebuild first, how you brief a board before you know the answer, and the week-one decisions you live with for three years.

Separation

Why transition services go wrong

How a TSA is priced, what buyers leave open, and why the exit is designed on day one, not negotiated in month eleven.

Cost

Thirty per cent, twice

Where the money really is in an IT estate, why offshore cases overstate year one, and how to move people through TUPE without losing the service.

We are all just custodians, passing through a company's story for a while.
